Microsoft Silverlight 4 and SharePoint 2010 Integration

Posted by Steve Pietrek on August 19, 2010

As most of you know, I am a HUGE fan of both SharePoint and Silverlight. The two of them go together like peanut butter and vanilla ice cream. I am always amazed how quickly I can build out Silverlight applications that can be integrated with SharePoint. I have successfully integrated over 60 Silverlight applications over the past 18 months. SharePoint 2010’s Client Object Model opens a very large opportunity to build some really cool Silverlight applications.

I am quite happy to see a new Silverlight/SharePoint book that covers the latest versions of the respective products. The book is Microsoft Silverlight 4 and SharePoint 2010 Integration by Gaston Hillar.

Table of Contents can be found below:

  1. Integrating Silverlight 4 with SharePoint 2010 – can be downloaded here
  2. Deploying and Debugging Techniques for Silverlight and SharePoint
  3. Interacting with Data on the SharePoint Server
  4. Creating Dynamic Business Solutions
  5. Working with WCF Data Services
  6. Interacting with Rich Media and Animations

PACKT sent me a review copy of the book and it was delivered yesterday. Expect a full review soon!

September 2010 TriSPUG Meeting Announcement

Posted by Steve Pietrek on August 19, 2010

I’ll be speaking at the TriSPUG meeting on September 7 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. My topic is as follows:

Developer Track: Learn how Silverlight 4 can be used to integrate rich, powerful applications into SharePoint 2007 and 2010. Walk through Silverlight basics (XAML, styles, layouts, and application settings), retrieving data from SharePoint lists and document libraries through SharePoint web services, RPC, and the new Client Object Model, introduction to managing code using the MVVM development pattern, and deploying the Silverlight controls to SharePoint.

The Triangle SharePoint User Group was formed in 2008 to provide an outlet for developers, IT, and business users who are interested in learning, sharing, and growing their knowledge in Microsoft SharePoint. Their goal is to bring together local, regional, and national speakers to share their knowledge of SharePoint and foster the SharePoint community in the greater Raleigh Durham area. They cover the entire spectrum of SharePoint topics. The group meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Attendance is free and informal. All interest levels and experience levels are welcome!

The meeting will be at Tek Systems – Raleigh Office.
